Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon – April 2019

Hour 2

It is almost 4 pm here in the Netherlands, so that means that the readathon has already been going for almost 2 hours. I have started to read The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. I love the books by Rick Riordan and Apollo is so funny.

Now it is time for the entry survey!

Getting to Know You Survey

1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am reading in the Netherlands, in my boyfriend’s house.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The book I started with today: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. The books by Rick Riordan are always funny, full with ancient myths and interesting adventures.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I don’t have a lot of snacks prepared. We will see what I pick. Maybe the noodles are looking at me expectantly.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I am 23 years old. Writer, book lover and gamer.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I look forward to the moment I finish the first book. That feeling is so great!

Hour 6

7 o’clock , so that means that we have already had 5 hours of reading. This is going so fast. But the reading is going well. I had some temperature problems (first being too cold, now being too warm), I had dinner, chocolate and I am already over half of the first book, The Hidden Oracle. It is so much fun. Apollo is so funny. In this hour I will take a shower and read some more. See you later!

The advantage of reading a book about Apollo is that sometimes interesting sentences and paragraphs come up: A sonnet I could have handled. A quatrain would have been cause for celebration. But only the deadliest prophecies are couched in the form of a limerick.

Hour 9

I finished the first book! The Hidden Oracle was really great. I loved it. After I took a small cake break it was time to decide for the next book. I went for The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. This is one book in the thriller series by J.K. Rowling. I have gotten interested in thrillers lately and I thought I’d start with this one. And now back to reading!

Hour 24

And that was it! Hour 9 was in de evening, so that meant that I only read for a few hours before heading to bed. And in the morning I read for a few more hours before I realised that I couldn’t finish the book in time. Also, I realised that it would make me far more stressed out when I read on, still trying to finish a book, so I decided to stop and finish the book later in a more relaxed setting without a self-made deadline to reach.

So that was my readathon! I loved it. It was really fun. I would have liked to read more, but I had another appointment right after the readathon and I didn’t want to be too tired for that. Next time I want to read for a longer time. See you later and until my next blog and my next readathon.
